SteelSeries Rival 3 vs Roccat Kone AIMO Remastered

SteelSeries Rival 3 vs Roccat Kone AIMO Remastered: Gaming Mouse

We had already been able to take in the classic SteelSeries Rival 3, which is also a perfect mouse despite a slightly small size. Indeed, despite its performance, it is not suitable for all hands. Even if it has the advantage of adapting to left-handed people who really want it, it remains quite small in size. But for people who love wireless mice, the manufacturer has released the new SteelSeries Rival 3 Wireless.

Design

SteelSeries Rival 3 3

If you enjoyed the SteelSeries Rival 3 when it first came out, you wouldn’t fail to recognize it here. The mouse is, in fact, the same in the wireless version, however, here. It is still much more practical if you tend to move around a lot. However, the Rival 3 Wireless is small, even compared to the mouse. It is therefore perfectly suited for small hands and ultimately medium hands. However, players with lumberjack hands will have a little trouble.

Not clad with buttons everywhere, it has a button to adjust the sensor’s sensitivity, just behind the dial. The other buttons are the click of the wheel, the two main clicks, and two macro buttons on the left edge. These allow additional functions to be configured. The mouse remains sober and elegant; it does not seek the effects of light everywhere, as seen in the backlight, which only illuminates the wheel.

SteelSeries Rival 3 Back

If you open the cover by pulling it backward, you will find the location for the two LR03 (AAA) batteries and a small place to store the USB dongle. Under the mouse are the three pads, including a large one at the back, the sensor, and the three-position button to turn on the mouse and connect it either in 2.4 GHz or in Bluetooth. Overall, that’s all for this Rival 3 Wireless design, which is relatively simple aesthetically speaking.

Roccat Kone AIMO Remastered 3

At first glance, the Roccat Kone AIMO Remastered is an imposing mouse, much more than my old mouse, by the way. The latter arrived in a white version here, which is a bit of a change from typically black mice. More and more, manufacturers are starting to offer mice in white and sometimes in other colors, as limited editions, to bring a touch of fantasy and difference to your setup on your desktop.

The mouse has quite a few buttons, the usefulness of which we will see in a few lines. Its format is suitable for fairly large hands. Here, the larger mouse is necessarily more comfortable, especially since its more rounded shape better conforms to the shape of your palm.

The Roccat Kone AIMO is not ambidextrous. However, it cannot be used with the left hand by left-handed people. However, it is widespread for left-handed people to use their mouse with their right hand. First, it is easier for them, and second, they have to adapt because very few mice are made for them or are ambidextrous.

In terms of build quality, it is good, but we still note that you have to be careful with the mouse, not for the fragility of poor quality of manufacture but not its aesthetics. The well-crafted shapes don’t make it a MadCatz RAT 6+ either, and we want to say, fortunately.

Performance

As for the sensor, SteelSeries has put its own sensor, a TrueMove Air, with quite impressive characteristics for a mouse of this range! 7800 DPI, up to 400 IPS (for screens compatible with high frequencies), and 40G of acceleration, we are on something rather serious and appreciable. This sensor, however, was not designed entirely by SteelSeries and was developed in partnership with PixArt. Not the movie studios! The designers of sensors equip the majority of your gaming mice.

The sensor does not pick up or very hard; you really have to go very hard and have poor support. For our part, we always use an elementary mat from SteelSeries. This classic, non-backlit little mouse pad does the job very well and has been with me for years.

The SteelSeries Rival 3 Wireless is guaranteed for 60 million clicks. You are certainly not going to count them, but in short, you have a few years before it starts to weaken. An average gamer who spends about 8 hours a day in front of his PC and 10,000 clicks per day has for about 16 years.

The mouse weighs 106 grams with its two batteries, which is quite heavy for a small mouse of this size. Rather heavy mice are slower to move but give me more concentration.

SteelSeries Rival 3 4

SteelSeries Engine software. You can configure the mouse and save up to 5 different game profiles to it. It’s a classic, but it’s always nice to be able to save predefined settings. You have the option to create a custom setting for GTA 5, one for Valorant and another for Flight Simulator if you are forced to mouse play this game.

First, the mouse is pleasant to use when it comes to handling due to its fairly large size. This is very handy for people like me who have rather large hands, much more than having a too-small mouse. The Roccat Kone AIMO Remastered conforms perfectly to the shape of the hand and allows it to be used for several hours without worry. This mouse is also equipped with 5 shortcut buttons allowing additional functions. We also like the 130-gram weight, which is really ideal for people like me who like fairly heavy mice. However, this is not the case for everyone; it must be recognized.

Roccat Kone AIMO Remastered 1

All these buttons are configured by default, but you can re-configure them using the Roccat Swarm software. They are placed on the left of the mouse, very easily accessible with your thumb. By default, they are used for classic functions, often on different gaming mice of all brands.

In terms of gliding comfort, it is optimal. The Roccat Kone AIMO still has 5 pads, allowing it an optimal glide on all supports or, rather, on all mousepads. It is not a very high-end model, but it suits me perfectly for my use and is also perfectly suited to use the Kone AIMO Remastered, enjoying a very satisfactory comfort.

For a few figures, this Roccat mouse can undergo accelerations of 50G with its ROCCAT Owl-Eye sensor, which is already, we will agree, rather high! Its maximum speed is 250 images per second, which is already very good in itself and can go wonderfully with an Aorus 15G XB and its 240 Hz. The mouse response time is obviously 1 ms and the frequency of the 1000 Hz sensor, as on most gaming mice in this range and even lower ranges.

As for the clicks, they are quite soft and not very noisy. We appreciate the Omron switches, which also equip a good number of gaming mice on the market.

Conclusion!

Although it is impossible to connect it to a computer, the SteelSeries Rival 3 Wireless turns out to be your new ideal for XXL autonomy. With two batteries, you go for a minimum of one month of autonomy without breaking your head to recharge it every 3 days. In addition to that, we note the presence of a powerful sensor, a maximum acceleration of 40G, and a weight of 106 grams with 2 batteries. What could be better for a mid-range wireless gaming mouse?

Whatever the field, the Roccat Kone AIMO Remastered excels. With an acceleration of 50G, it does not stall. In addition, its grip by its large size and weight of 130 grams can only delight me, like many other gamers!
