The SecretLab Titan XL is a large gaming chair designed for the tallest and heaviest gamers. It takes a similar design to that of the SecretLab Titan, with dimensions revised upwards and certain reinforced elements.
The brand often has an excellent finish and offers many adjustments to adapt to most situations. Special mention for the lumbar support integrated into the backrest.
The chair takes the base of the Titan model but in enlarged dimensions to better adapt to the most imposing players. It benefits in particular from a wider seat and a new foot to gain stability.
For the rest, the technical sheet changes very little, and we find all the strengths that have forged the brand’s success. The model is offered at $479 in its PU leather version and $ 499 for the SoftWeave fabric version.
The box includes:
- The seat of the Titan XL and its two armrests already installed
- The back of the chair
- An imposing metal foot
- The mechanism for adjusting the various settings of the chair
- A pillow for the head
- A cardboard box with 5 wheels, plastic side covers, the cylinder, and the tools necessary for assembly
- An assembly guide and some paperwork
As for the assembly, no fundamental changes compared to the Titan model that we presented to you last year. Secretlab confirms its know-how in this area once again and relies on a few minor details to make the difference against the competition.
The assembly can be done alone, in about fifteen minutes. We list below the steps to follow and a small animation showing you the process.
- Step 1: Insert the 5 screws on the metal foot
- Step 2: Insert the cylinder in the center of the foot
- Step 3: Remove the 4 screws already installed on the sides of the backrest
- Step 4: Assemble the seat and backrest by sliding it into the hinge provided. Lock everything using the 4 screws that you just removed earlier. Position the magnetic side covers
- Step 5: Remove the screw, locking the tilt mechanism of the chair.
- Step 6: Turn the chair over and fix the adjustment mechanism under the seat using 4 screws. Check the direction of orientation.
- Step 7: Insert the plastic pallets on the metal rods used to adjust the chair
- Step 8: Fit the actuator and the leg of the chair into the adjustment mechanism
- Step 9: Turn the chair the right way around and position the head cushion.
It may seem silly, but by adding this hinge, making it easier to attach the backrest to the seat, Secretlab stands out from most of its competitors and makes the assembly of its chair much more accessible. This is often the most complicated step to perform, and sometimes it takes two people to align the holes properly. It’s child’s play here.
Design
The Secretlab Titan XL broadly resumes what we had already discovered alongside the Titan model. Its name speaks for itself, and it is neither more nor less than a large-format version of the previous model.
The classic Titan armchair, already more imposing than the Omega, is designed for players measuring between 1m75 and 2m for a maximum weight of 130 kg.Â
To adapt to these more imposing templates, the Titan XL relies on increased dimensions and reinforced elements, particularly at the level of the base of the chair or its tilting mechanism.
The seat is the element gaining the most surface area, with a width of 52 cm to almost 58 cm for this XL version. We also gain a little depth, with 50.5 cm. The backrest is a little longer to reach 85cm, and its sides also seem to have a less pronounced angle to provide more space for huge body shape players.
Another important point is that the starbase goes from 70 cm in diameter to 80 cm on this XL model to offer better stability to the whole.
In addition to these main differences, the two Titan and Titan XL models have similar finishes, and the whole thing still exudes quality. We are clearly on a high-end gaming chair, with quality materials suggesting good durability.
There are always large wheels of 60 mm in diameter with coating limiting traces on the ground. The foot also retains its aluminum design, unlike entry-level models favoring plastic.
We also remain on a Class 4 model on the cylinder side, but as explained a little earlier, the tilt mechanism is reinforced to withstand a 50 kg heavier load. We will come back to the various adjustments a little later.
For the armrests, no change either, with still a metal mechanism and plastic covers. We always find a slightly concave shape to fit the forearms better, and the set has padding that is neither too soft nor too firm to provide excellent comfort over time.
In terms of seat and backrest coverings, the choices are a little more limited for this XL version than the original Titan chair, with PU leather or “SoftWeave” fabric but no NAPA leather.
Secretlab only offers two variants for the PU leather models with the Stealth model that we present to you today and an all-black version similar to that of our Titan. The variants in the colors of the different esports teams or certain games are unfortunately not available.
As for the rest of the armchair, the finishes of this coating are outstanding. The synthetic leather displays a very successful appearance and a beautiful softness to the touch. We are a notch above the leathers used on “no-name” gaming chairs.
This Stealth version is also accompanied by a few inserts with a “carbon fiber” look, with red stitching that does not show the slightest defect.
For the “SoftWeave” fabric variants, there are three colors with a version with different black shades, a charcoal gray model with bluish accents, and finally, a light gray version similar to that of our Secretlab Omega.
To finish with the general appearance of the chair, finally, note the presence of a headrest cushion with memory foam.Â
The manufacturer stands out from the competition by offering a model that brings a real plus in terms of comfort. No lumbar cushion is present, the support being directly integrated into the backrest.
Ergonomics
The ergonomic adjustments offered by this Secretlab Titan XL are strictly similar to those of the Titan chair. We quickly review the available settings.
The seat’s height can be adjusted via a lever positioned under the center, between 48.5 and 58 cm.Â
Via a second lever, you can then leave the tilt free to lock it in the position of your choice. Beneath the mechanism, a large wheel allows the resistance of this inclination to be adjusted, in particular, according to its weight.
The backrest can also be adjusted to the position of your choice via a lever placed on the right of the chair. This allows you to opt for a very upright position when you want to be concentrated on specific tasks or your parts, or on the contrary, a more relaxed and elongated posture to enjoy a film or live on Twitch, for example.
On the side of the armrests, there is a 4D adjustment that we are now starting to know well. It is possible to adjust their position in height, move them forward or backward, spread them more or less apart, or even rotate them. As usual, it works very well, and it allows you to perfectly adjust its position to best adapt to your morphology and the height of your desk.
Finally, the last adjustment is at the level of the lumbar support, here directly integrated into the back of this Secretlab Titan XL. Like a Noblechairs Hero, here, you can more or less “inflate” the lower section of the seat to provide additional support to the lower back and improve your posture. The adjustment is made via a notched wheel positioned on the right of the backrest.
Comfort
Make way for the comfort of this Secretlab Titan XL. After ten days at his side, the feedback is quite close to that obtained during our test of the classic Titan model.
The different foams used in the seat or back again provide a good compromise between comfort and support, with foams that are neither too firm nor too soft. You can easily spend hours behind your PC without feeling the slightest discomfort or pain, even if obviously with a size of 1m78 for 68 kg; the Titan and Omega models are a little more adapted to our morphology.
The different ergonomic settings make switching between different postures according to your preferences and desires. At the same time, the lumbar support brings a real plus compared to the unconvincing cushions found on many gaming chairs.
Due to its larger dimensions, this XL model is better suited to users with the (bad) habit of sitting cross-legged on their chairs.
Conclusion
Once again, Secretlab confirms all its know-how in the sector and presents an excellent gaming chair.
This XL model takes up all the keys that made the success of the brand’s previous references and now adapts perfectly to the most imposing sizes. Its increased dimensions and various reinforcements should also ensure good durability for the heaviest users.
In use, comfort is always there, and the various adjustments available allow this Titan XL to be adapted to most situations. We remain a notch below an actual ergonomic chair, but it is difficult to find better on the sector if you are looking for a large-format gaming chair.
Faced with its little sisters, we can still regret the low number of colors available, with only 5 variants against more than thirty for the Omega and Titan models.
Finally, there is the question of price. Starting at $479, this XL version is offered nearly $100 more than the classic Titan model. A gap that seems a bit high to us places this Titan XL as one of the most expensive chairs in the sector.
