Roccat Burst Pro vs XTRFY M4: Lightweight Gaming Mouse

An ultra-light mouse with over 300 holes, we have another similar mouse in our hands today, with fewer holes. This is the Roccat Burst Pro that we offer, a mouse that promises to be ultra-light, super resistant, and enduring while maintaining the quality of Roccat mice.

Some people like a gaming mouse when it’s heavy enough, like a Roccat Kone AIMO Remastered. However, some also like it when it’s light enough, like this XTRFY M4. And to do this, the manufacturer has found a fairly simple solution: make holes in the mouse to remove material and thus make it lighter.

Design

Roccat Burst Pro design min

The Roccat Burst Pro is an ultra-light gaming mouse from Roccat. It promises to be efficient while offering a featherweight but with all the same a complete form and, this time, no holes. However, it mimics them with its backlighting that lets us think so in a relatively successful but not perfect way. The Burst Pro adopts a reasonably symmetrical shape, like other mice like the Roccat Kain 200 AIMO, which is quite aesthetically pleasing.

In the pack:

  • The Roccat Burst Pro
  • Some information papers
  • A pair of additional skates

These additional pads allow you to replace the original ones when you have played a lot. They are practical and very welcome, to prolong the mouse’s life, a little attention that we can only appreciate from Roccat.

Roccat Burst Pro min

Like other mice, it has two buttons on the left but not on the right. It is indeed not ambidextrous; it is a mouse for right-handers only and not for left-handers. However, many left-handed people use mice like right-handed people, so that shouldn’t usually be too much of a problem.

Regarding the part that hugs the palm of your hand, at the back of the mouse, it is backlit. Aesthetically, the brand’s logo and the “Burst” reference could have been better integrated into the mouse. But that’s not a problem because it’s still purely subjective. However, we can see that this part is well riddled with holes. Except that it was covered with translucent plastic, allowing the RGB light to pass. The idea is good but is the plastic perhaps too matt; it is mainly there to diffuse the RGB lighting.

This helps prevent dust or unwanted elements from getting into the mouse, which is quite handy. The mouse adapts to large hands and small ones; it is practical and relatively high with its 35 mm, which does not displease us.

On the left side of the mouse, there are two programmable buttons. These can be configured using the Roccat Swarm software, the driver for all the brand’s peripherals. On the top, in addition to the two clicks based on Roccat Titan Optical switches, we find the click wheel, of course, and backlit on the edges. But that’s not all; we also have a button to adjust the sensitivity of the sensor. Some values are pre-configured.

If we look back on the left and right edges, we notice a textured coating, allowing the fingers to adhere a little more than on the so-called classic plastic. However, it is not apparent we must admit, and it is instead there for a certain aestheticism.

XTRFY M4 Design min

The world of gaming mice has launched into mice with holes for some time, particularly this Xtrfy M4. She was one of the first models to offer this concept, and if some don’t like it, we think it’s excellent! This allows for a high-performance gaming mouse while maintaining minimal weight. Indeed, we remove relatively light plastic, which leaves a particular mass to the mouse; however, the aesthetic aspect is there in addition to the lightness that this gives it.

There are, therefore, more than 300 holes on this Xtrfy M4 (yes, yes, we counted) which give it a neat and original aesthetic appearance. These allow the registered and backlit brand logo to appear inside the mouse. We like this little attention to detail.

In the pack:

  • An Xtrfy sticker
  • Two keyboard keys, one with logo and one with “GG.”
  • Replacement pads
  • Some notices and various info

The keyboard keys are only used to personalize your mechanical keyboard. If you have lost a keycap, for example, you can add them if you wish. Instead of the Esc key, for instance, it looks like the Mionix keycaps we tested previously.

But back to our sheep, or rather our mouse. On the top, there are several buttons, including additional clicks allowing additional features. There are three additional buttons in the mouse and under the mouse, there are also some features to find below, which is not always very practical for some.

Below the mouse, there are four white pads, changeable by other pads provided when the first ones are damaged. We appreciate the fact that they can be replaced easily. A fifth pad can also be put around the sensor if you wish to add it. Be careful; they are not ceramic but plastic, of good quality, however.

Under the mouse, there is also a button to adjust the DPI, an LED indicating the sensitivity level of the sensor, and a selector to choose the frequency you want.

Then we find holes and more holes. Except that putting holes under a gaming mouse, which rubs on a mouse pad sometimes with a little inevitable dust, necessarily brings dust into the mouse. Indeed, but the quantities are pretty small, and if you wipe it from time to time over it, you will not have any problems of this kind.

In terms of weight, the mouse is only 69 grams, which is very light! Does this allow better, smoother, and more pleasant trips? We will see it in a few lines.

It exists in 5 colors, so you have a choice! We find backlighting everywhere, namely:

  • On the coast
  • On the front
  • On the dial
  • In the mouse

Finally, let’s talk about the cable before talking about the functions of the mouse and its ease of use. We notice that the latter adopts the color of the mouse, which is not to displease us. With a length of 1.8 meters, it is perfect for running around behind your PC. However, it is braided and very thick. Nothing is annoying there except that there is a lot of margin between the cable’s actual and braiding thickness, which can be annoying for some cable carriers. But at least, perfect level of solidity. However, we see that the cable is very flexible on this model.

Performance

Roccat Burst Pro- It is quite high, it is true, and its top is quite in the center, unlike other mice. In other words, it comes down quickly to the rear, while other models like the Thermaltake Level 20.

On the other hand, the weight of this Roccat Burst Pro mouse with its only 68 grams is incredible. If one does not feel the impression of lightness firsthand, it is there with only 68 grams. Faced with other mice which offer us to add weight, this one removes as much as possible. The movements are thus fluid, and rather a pleasant one must recognize it well. It is convenient to play CS: GO, for example, or other FPS like Valorant or PUBG.

The mouse claims to go up to 400 fps, which is very good in the field; it is one of the best scores overall. If you have a high-frequency display like an Asus ROG 360Hz, this is definitely the model for you at all costs. Regarding acceleration, it can undergo up to 50 G, which leaves plenty to do. This is very handy for games where you need to be very responsive; the mouse won’t pick up. We have tried over and over again. However, she has not stalled once.

While ultralight mice, due to their featherweight, tend to lift easily when picked up, the Roccat Burst Pro does not. The latter remains on the mouse pad and does not move; we must say that we particularly appreciate it.

As for the clicks, they activate Roccat Titan Optical switches. They are advertised to experience up to 100 million clicks. So far, we haven’t done the test on so many clicks, but that won’t be a problem for many months for the greatest of gamers, long years for more or less reasonable people. However, in terms of the noise of the switch, the latter is not the most pleasant. It is indeed a bit noisy, and the Roccat Burst Pro suffers from a noise that is not the most beautiful in gaming. This is still correct but noticeable, although you get used to it over time.

The sensor is a Roccat Owl-Eye 16K, in other words, a sensor based on the famous PixArt PMW3389. It is the benchmark in the middle of mid-range mice, and it really works very well. It goes up to 16,000 DPI, but it is obviously possible to configure it with less sensitivity. All this is done using the button behind the wheel, allowing you to choose from a total of 5 pre-configurations stored in the memory of the mouse.

There is no special animation when you change the sensitivity of the sensor via this button, the cursor is just faster or slower, but at the level of the backlight LEDs of the Burst, nothing and we do without good.

As for the frequency of the sensor, it is set by default to 1000 Hz, but you can always set it to 125 Hz, 250 Hz, or 500 Hz, but quite honestly, 1000 Hz is fine.

XTRFY M4- Using a mouse with holes all over the place does really change anything compared to the classic worries? In itself, not really no. If it is not by the latter’s weight, we do not really notice a big difference except, of course, the feeling, especially at the level of the thumb. You can feel the holes, but it’s something that is not disturbing, far from it.

However, we can see the lightness of this mouse compared to other models, such as the Thermaltake Level 20 . The mouse is really light, and the movements are smooth and really pleasant. Yet a fan of large and heavy mice.

The mouse can display up to 400 fps which is good enough for me with my 60Hz displays, but which will come in handy if you use a high-frequency display. It can be accelerated up to 50 G, which leaves you plenty to do in terms of movement. It will not stall so quickly! As proof, we did not manage to get it to drop once even though we had put it to the test!

However, a small point that taints this mouse, and all ultra-light mice, in general, is the fact that it is ultra-light. So, she can lift herself quite easily in some situations and sometimes when you wouldn’t want to. Let it be said that does not happen very often, of course, but from time to time, for example, when you take the mouse back in your hands. But that’s an inherent concern with all mice of this genre, and the Xtrfy M4 is not an isolated case. We can also add that the switches are Omron and are guaranteed for 20 million clicks. In terms of click noise, the latter is relatively soft and classic.

Below the mouse, you can adjust the sensitivity of the sensor and the frequency of the latter. For the frequency, we put it on 1000 Hz, as on the software of certain competitors; here, it is done directly on the mouse.

To adjust the sensitivity of this PixArt PMW 3389 sensor, a button is available with a notification LED, allowing you to indicate the sensitivity level on which the sensor is set. On the Xtrfy M4, we find by default several sensitivity levels pre-configured with an assigned color.

  • 400 DPI: Red
  • 800 DPI: Yellow
  • 1200 DPI: Orange
  • 1600 DPI: Blue
  • 3200 DPI: Purple
  • 4000 DPI: Cyan
  • 7200 DPI: Green
  • 16,000 DPI: White

Where the manufacturer had a good idea to configure many different sensitivities, we cannot, however, change them. This is the small handicap of the mouse but to which the must recognize manufacturer has been able to respond well.

The Xtrfy M4 does not have dedicated software to control its functionalities. It’s a shame because we would have appreciated having software like SteelSeries Engine, for example. But this is not the case, and it is quite a shame. However, this is why there are so many buttons on the mouse, and this makes us say that the manufacturer has done well indeed.

The only downside is the fact that the sensor sensitivity settings are below the mouse. It’s a bit annoying at times, but it’s the only solution that allows you to keep all of its features and customize the backlight to your liking.

Back lighting

Roccat Burst Pro- Backlight level, where everything is tidy. No backlighting everywhere, just a little on the part that hugs the palm as well as on the edges of the dial, that’s all. However, we must admit that we are well enough, it does not pose so much of a problem, and we prefer a fairly discreet mouse offering a backlight that is not omnipresent but well done. This is what the Roccat Burst Pro offers.

On the backlight, everything is well done. We must say it; if the diffusion of light at the mouse’s back is not our favorite, we must recognize that the job is well done. On the wheel side, everything is perfectly backlit; the movements of the LEDs are fluid but not always very well synchronized just after installing Roccat Swarm. Restarting the PC helps resolve the issue.

XTRFY M4- To modify the RGB light effects of the mouse, you must use the button behind the mouse wheel. We have different light effects with a few different effects and colors that can change, but be careful to change the colors; it’s technical!

To keep a light effect but change the color, you will need to press and hold the button behind the wheel and change the colors with the main clicks of the mouse. The same goes for the speed of the effects. We warned you that it was technical, but at least Xtrfy brings this possibility, where others do nothing and put a single backlight effect.

Besides, to change the brightness of the mouse, it is possible on the others, and here? It’s very “simple” once again; here, you just have to hold the button behind the dial and press one of the two side buttons. The button directed towards your screen increases the brightness while the one directed towards you decreases it.

Conclusion!

The Roccat Burst Pro is a good gaming mouse that we use with great pleasure. We like its customization via the Roccat Burst software and all of its features. All this for a fair price!

The Xtrfy M4 is a good gaming mouse. Despite its lack of dedicated software, it does much better than some other competing mice also lacking. If the mouse is light, it is to improve its responsiveness and yours, to the detriment of the size, which will displease the hands of lumberjacks but will appeal to FPS players.
