Mu6 Ring vs Naenka Runner Pro

Mu6 Ring vs Naenka Runner Pro: Open Ear Wireless Headphones

Mu6 Ring sports headphones are characterized by having an open design that allows us to hear what is happening around us. Besides that, they are very light and comfortable; They have an autonomy of 9 hours at medium volume, and their sound quality is excellent in the medium and high frequencies (for a sports headset).

The Naenka Runner Pro is an exciting Bluetooth headphone because they use bone conduction to deliver sound to the inner ear. This means that they do not block your ears and allow you to hear all outside sounds without problems. The Runner Pro has the characteristic of having a fairly good sound quality to use this technology, and, in addition, they are very comfortable and light.

Mu6 Ring

Mu6 Ring Design

The Mu6 Ring is sports headphones with an open design characterized by being placed close to the ears, but they do not fit inside, nor are they worn over them. Thanks to that, we can use them when riding a bike or running without preventing us from hearing what is happening around us. It’s like carrying small speakers close to your ear—ideal for practicing sports safely.

The headphones are mounted on a hard plastic band that is passed around the neck. The headband is not adjustable, and to hold the headphones and keep the headband in place, the part of the headphones is rotated and fits snugly over the ears. This is very interesting because it makes the headphones stay fixed in different sizes, but, in addition, they also allow us to place the band more or less low, which can come in handy depending on the sport.

On the inside of the band, we have several areas of adherent rubber so that the headphones do not move from their position. In addition, it is a soft rubber with a good touch and very comfortable. Thanks to that, the headphones are incredibly comfortable, and once put on, they do not disturb anything or move from their position.

Naenka Runner Pro

Naenka Runner Pro Design

The first thing to note about the Naenka Runner Pro is that it is a bone conduction headset. This means that the headphones are not inserted into the ear. Instead, they are placed on the part of the cheekbone closest to the ear.

The headphones vibrate, and the bones transmit these vibrations to the cochlea, where the vibrations are converted into nerve impulses. But, Instead of using the eardrum to transmit vibrations to the cochlea, the skull bones are used. This has several important implications:

These headphones do not buffer the ears so we can perfectly hear everything that happens around us. The vibration also produces some sound that travels through the air, but it is not the main transmission mechanism in this case, so the eardrums do not suffer as much wear and tear as in traditional headphones.

Also, as these headphones rely less on the eardrums, they are suitable for people with hearing problems.

The headphones have a black plastic and rubber external part. Both the build quality and the finishes are quite good, and the materials are delightful to the touch, and the rubber helps the headphones not move from their position.

The headphones that produce the sound fall in the area where the cheekbones meet the ears. The headphones are attached with a hook above the ear and are held in position because the headphones are attached at the rigid back. The placement is effortless, and the headphones stay in position perfectly, even if we do sports with them. They don’t move anything.

The headphones are water-resistant, although the manufacturer does not say how much. Of course, they will survive sweat and rain without any problems. On the right side of the band, we have an area with a large button in which below we have 3 physical buttons. We have the multifunction button in the middle, and on the sides, we have the volume buttons. With the multifunction button, we can:

  • Turn on: press the button for 2 seconds
  • Power off: press the button for 3 seconds
  • Pair: from off, press the button for 5 seconds
  • Pause/resume: press the button once while playing music
  • Accept call: pressing the button once when receiving a call
  • Reject call: press and hold the button for two seconds when receiving a call

We can raise and lower the volume with the volume keys and go forward or backward through the song if we hold down.

They are quite light with 35 grams of weight and do not bother to wear them for hours. In addition, they have the IPX8 water resistance certificate, so they can be used for swimming in the pool.

A curious detail is that if we move our jaw a lot, for example, when chewing, the sound can change when the headphones move from the bone momentarily. It is not a major problem because it only affects chewing (food or gum), but it does not happen when we speak.

At the back of each earphone, we have a large rigid piece that stores the electronics (battery, memory, connector, etc.). In addition, on the right earbud, we have 3 buttons to control the headphones:

At the back of each earphone, we have a large rigid piece that stores the electronics (battery, memory, connector, etc.). In addition, on the right earbud, we have 3 buttons to control the headphones:

  • On/off button: it can also be used to pause or resume playback with a short press or to switch between Bluetooth or internal memory mode with two quick presses. If we receive a call, a press will serve to answer the call and to hang up. If we want to reject it, we will have to click twice.
  • Button to increase the volume: if we press once, we will increase the volume, but if we keep the press, we will go to the next song.
  • Volume down button: if we press once, we will lower the volume, but if we keep the press, we will return to the previous song

They can work both by Bluetooth, but they can also play the music that we put in the 8 GB of internal storage; it gives about 1500 songs approximately. This function comes in handy if we do not want to carry the mobile with us or practice swimming (where the Bluetooth connection may fail).

The headphones have an internal 200 mAh battery with which we can play music for 9 or 10 hours at medium volume. However, at maximum volume, the battery drops to about 6 hours.

The headphones charge in about 2 hours using the micro-USB port that we find next to the buttons. It is a pity that they still use such an old connection in such modern headphones and of this quality, they will last us for many years. It is much more convenient for all devices to use USB-C and forget about having several different cables.

Naenka Runner Pro

The headphones have an internal lithium battery that allows you to play Bluetooth music at medium volume for approximately 6 hours. If we use the integrated player, the battery is a little higher.

The headphones are charged using a proprietary magnetic adapter that attaches very conveniently to the headphones. This same cable also allows you to transfer music to the memory of the player. But, of course, the transfer speed is a bit slow.

Mu6 Ring

The Mu6 Rings have Bluetooth 5.0 and are compatible with SBC and AAC codecs. As you would expect, the connection stability is excellent.

Even being such particular headphones, Mu6 is a brand that emphasizes sound quality, as we already saw with the Mu6 Space 2. As you might expect, the frequencies that suffer the most from this open design are the bass. On the other hand, the low frequency sounds good. Still, they have good definitions and ranges.

The means are perfect. They are natural and very sharp. The voices are authentic and strong. The main instruments sound detailed and defined. The instrument separation is perfect, and we can listen to each instrument separately without the melody blurring when there are many sounds. The treble is also excellent. Again, they are detailed and crystalline, but they manage to be very warm and pleasant.

In general, the sound of the Mu6 Ring is very well achieved for sports headphones of this style. We would say that the sound stands out for its clarity and definition. Everything sounds natural, crystalline, and with good instrument separation. But, of course, the low frequencies suffer a bit more from the open design and do not have the punch of in-ear headphones.

In terms of volume, the headphones have more than enough power to enjoy music while we continue to listen to everything that happens around us. However, many will miss a little more volume. Of course, the headphones have a microphone for hands-free use of the phone. The quality of the microphone is quite good and picks up voice clearly both indoors and outdoors.

Naenka Runner Pro

Naenka Runner Pro

As we have already seen, the Naenka Runner Pro headphones can work over Bluetooth 5.0. The range of the connection is medium, but the stability of the connection over reasonable distances is excellent. However, the headphones have some lag, so they are not the best option for playing games, something obvious if we consider that they are headphones for practicing sports or for people with hearing problems of the eardrum.

The headphones mount a kind of 16 mm driver. Although they are bone conduction headphones, a small part of the sound is transmitted through the air, so people may hear what you are playing if you turn up the volume enough.

Still, Naenka engineers have worked to keep sound on the air minimal compared to other competitive headphones. At normal volumes, people are not able to hear what they are hearing. Increasing the volume also increases the vibrations. It is a strange feeling at first, but you get used to it, although people may be bothered if you use it for a long time. It must also be taken into account that, although bone conduction technology does not damage the eardrum at high volume, it can damage the cochlea, so we should not abuse the volume with this kind of headphones.

The sound quality itself has surprised me quite a bit for the better. This class of consumer headphones has only been around for a short time and is evolving a lot. The early models had a pretty poor sound, but these Naenka Runner Pro sound great.

Sound quality is something that we must sacrifice to enjoy the rest of the benefits of bone conduction headphones. However, the Naenka Runner Pro listens quite well. Voices and instruments sound natural and powerful. The level of detail is surprisingly good, and the sound is charming. If we turn the volume up a lot, the higher frequencies have some wheezing, but it’s not too worrisome.

Another exciting point is that the sound seems like it comes from outside as if we had speakers that follow us. It’s a bit strange feeling at first, and it seems like we have a built-in soundtrack. But, of course, we can listen to the sounds outside without any problems.

The headphones also feature a built-in microphone with CVC 6.0 technology that works great hands-free. The voice sounds clear and quite natural; yes, perhaps the volume is a little low.

Conclusion!

The Mu6 Ring is one of the best sports headphones. They have a high-quality sound, allow us to listen to our surroundings without problems, and are very comfortable. They have become my favorite headphones for running.

Its design and functionality are similar to bone conduction headphones; however, the Mu6 Ring sounds much better in the mid and high frequencies. They are much sharper and more detailed, and they do not blur with complex melodies. On the other hand, bone conduction headphones, such as the Naenka Runner Pro, have the advantage that they can be useful for people with some hearing problems.

The Naenka Runner Pro is complete headphones ** because they have bone transmission technology. In addition, they have an excellent sound quality to use this technology; they are comfortable, we can use them for swimming, and their battery is quite good. The only “negative” point that can be attributed to them is that they are not cheap. On the Naenka website, they cost $ 129 right now.
