Design
Design is a rather important point these days. JBL offers us a simple, sober headset without RGB and all black.
The headband is made of plastic of fairly good quality on the top, a rubber part that sports the JBL logo in black on top of a small dot background. The whole surface around it is matte black ABS plastic which is quite nice. Just below, there is a black rubber pad of the same design as the one above, but thicker, which allows you to wedge your head so that it is comfortable.
On each side, there are plastic rods that allow you to adjust the height of the branches and the inclination of the latter. The inlaid orange thread is positioned at the back, which offers a nice little touch of color.
As for the ear cups are similar in design; they consist of glossy plastic with a raised JBL logo in the center with diagonal grooves; it’s rather discreet. The foams are quite thick in imitation leather with a filter fabric in the center, revealing L and R logos in orange to know how to orient the helmet.
The only difference lies in the left headset, where you have the retractable microphone, a sound adjustment knob, and the braided fabric jack cable with small orange dots that recall the brand. Overall, this helmet sports a simple and clean design, which is very pleasing.
Sound
Sound. Here it is necessary to emphasize right away: if you buy a gaming headset, guided by some audiophile urges, something is wrong with you. In a gaming headset (including the JBL Quantum 300), you can listen to music and watch videos or movies, but it is primarily to play directly.
This is undoubtedly the most important point on headphones, as on any audio device for that matter. Sound is the domain of mastery of the JBL brand; integrating this signature in a gaming headset is good.
This headset is not bad at all; it offers dynamic audio quality with a nice coverage range in terms of sound. The mids and highs are well rendered, as are the basses, which allow excellent immersion in the game and listening to music.
At high volume, the sound remains clear and does not overdrive, which is a good thing.
Small interesting point, this headset is wired, which avoids the latencies possible with Bluetooth or Wireless. However, the cable is quite short, so you will have to use the extension cord, which is certainly provided, but it is not very practical if you are playing on a console, for example.
Overall the sound quality is good; we recognize JBL’s know-how in the field. The sounds are clear even at high volume and do not saturate. In addition, the immersion is good because the headset isolates quite well from outside noise.
And all thanks to JBL QuantumSURROUND technology, which simulates gorgeous multi-channel sound through unique advanced algorithms. If you transfer this experience to games, then with such a headset, you will clearly understand from which direction, for example, fire is fired at you.
Microphone
If no gaming headset microphone is really good, this one isn’t too bad either. Indeed, the microphone can reproduce rather clearly without being at the level of a desktop microphone, of course, but it’s not bad on a headset like this.
Moreover, the microphone has a foam to avoid breath noise and acts as a pop filter; it works quite well. It is possible to mute the microphone by raising it, which activates a button inside.
Comfort
Large and soft memory foam ear cushions play a considerable role in terms of comfort. When the headset, as they say, is right out of the box, they are unrealistically soft – it feels like putting a pillow on your head. Over time, of course, memory foam turns on this very memory, and the earpads adjust to your anthropometry.
And they are still very comfortable even during many hours of gaming sessions. The ears do not hurt, nothing presses anywhere, the size can be adjusted to suit you. In general, ergonomics are on top.
The headset, as you probably already understood, is wired. Cable length (3.5 mm) 1.2 meters + a USB audio adapter with its 1.5-meter cable. At the same time, the JBL Quantum 300 has a fairly wide, we would even say, comprehensive list of compatibility. This includes PC, Mac, VR, PlayStation with Xbox (including modern ones), Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
Conclusion!
The JBL Quantum 300 gaming headset is simply a great device that will give you a tangible superiority (especially in positional games) and a pleasure to use. Everything from ergonomics and sound quality to price makes this an exciting headset.
So if you’re not a hardcore gamer but don’t mind hitting the rink or two in the evening, the JBL Quantum 300 might be the perfect solution for you. Take a closer look.
