Both the Huawei Watch GT 3 and the Amazfit GTR 4 are upper-middle-class smartwatches with great hardware and a lot of features.
If you’re looking for a smartwatch that is a reliable companion in everyday life, monitors your health, and helps you with sports and fitness, you’ve probably come across the Watch GT 3 and Amazfit GTR 4.
The two models offer almost everything you’d expect from a modern smartwatch, making it difficult to choose between them. In this guide, we’ll compare smartwatches in a few different ways to help you make your choice.

The first thing that stands out is that all of the watches come in two sizes. The standard version of the models is approximately 46 mm in size and thus more suitable for men.
The smaller variant measures between 40 and 43 mm in diameter and is thus ideal as a women’s smartwatch. A word about the Amazfit watch. The GTS 4 is the smaller variant, with a compact angular design.
While the Amazfit GTR 4 has only been available since early autumn of this year, both watches have been on the market since last year. Otherwise, the watches’ technical equipment, such as sensors, is very similar.
Design
For both models, the manufacturers chose the popular round watch design, using the high-quality materials such as stainless steel, ceramics, and aluminium.
Starting with the design, both the Huawei Watch GT 3 and the Amazfit GTR 4 feature a circular format with similar appearances. However, the Huawei Watch GT 3 seems to be better built and more robust.
The Amazfit GTR 4, on the other hand, is lighter and more comfortable on the wrist. Both watches have a rotating crown on the right side, enhancing usability. However, the GTR 4’s button protrudes, making it uncomfortable when pressed accidentally. The watches come with 22mm straps that are easily replaceable. While both watches offer leather finish straps, the Amazfit GTR 4’s strap seems to be better finished and more durable.
Display
Both the Huawei Watch GT 3 and the Amazfit GTR 4 feature 1.43-inch AMOLED screens with a resolution of 466 by 466 pixels. The screens are vibrant and visible in various lighting conditions, including bright sunlight. They also offer an Always On display mode, allowing users to glance at the time and other information without having to wake the watch.
The Watch GT 3 and GTR 4 displays have a good resolution, which is reflected in both clarity and colour saturation. Both watches provide excellent display quality, making it difficult to choose a winner in this aspect.
Battery Life
Only Amazfit provides concrete information about the energy cell with a battery capacity of 475 mAh. Huawei manufacturers remained silent, despite the fact that similar capacities can be assumed here.
In terms of battery life, the two Asian manufacturers provide very specific information in an expert way. This is how Huawei describes the conditions that would allow for a 14-day runtime.
Huawei: Under the following conditions, the battery will last 14 days: 30 minutes of Bluetooth calls per week, 30 minutes of music playback per week, heart rate tracking enabled, HUAWEI TruSleep enabled for sleep mode, 90 minutes of exercise per week (GPS enabled), Message notifications enabled (50 SMS, 6 calls, and 3 reminders per day), screen activated 200 times per day.
Amazfit: Typical usage scenario: heart rate monitor is frequently on and measures in 10-minute intervals, sleep monitor is enabled, static dial is selected, and screen brightness is set to the default. 15 minutes per week of Bluetooth phone calls, 30 minutes of music playback, and 150 pushed notifications per day Receive three phone calls per day; Raise your wrist 100 times a day to check the time; 5 times per day, check your blood oxygen levels; 5 minutes per day in front of a bright screen; GPS operation for 90 minutes per week.
To compare battery life, I always use the watches at the same intensity. Thus, a clock is used like this:
- Pulse measurement permanently activated with lowest measurement interval
- Sleep monitoring enabled
- SpO2 measurement enabled
- Notifications enabled
- Around 180 minutes of training with GPS per week
Both smartwatches lasted almost seven days with this use. This runtime satisfied me and performed well in market comparisons.

As shown, the Huawei Watch GT 3 and Amazfit GTR 4 have all the necessary features for daily activity tracking and health monitoring.
This includes steps, calories, sleep, stress, women’s health, and SpO2. PAI measurement on the Amazfit GTR 4 is another intriguing feature. This activity evaluation system uses heart rate only. Weekly scores matter.
PAI is a better way to measure personal activity than step count.
Health Snap Shot and One Tab measurement tools give the Amazfit GTR 4 a similar function. Short measurements collect all vital data.
Both watches do not support ECG or blood pressure monitoring, though the Amazfit GTR 4 is expected to get an ECG function in the next update. The Watch GT3 Pro from Huawei is equipped with such a measurement.

In this case, it’s also important to note that both watches can be worn on the chest. Also a feature that Asian models didn’t have but people wanted for a long time.
Here, the GT 3 and GTR 4 offer not only the usual training recording but also a further analysis that gives information on the training status, training load, different training effects, recommended recovery time, and VO2max.

As modern smartwatches, our watches can, of course, have all the smart features you’d expect. Notifications for incoming text messages, emails, phone calls, appointments, or tasks are just as common as a full music player with built-in memory.
Of course, the app that goes with each watch has a wide range of watch faces and apps. When it comes to the design of the screen, Huawei is the clear winner.

Conclusion!
Both models do very well in this direct comparison, so it makes sense that they are two of the most popular smartwatches out there.
The Huawei Watch GT 3 is good in almost every way. If I had one wish, it would be for a few more health features. When it comes to measuring HRV, this is especially true. Other than that, there’s nothing wrong with the watch, and it’s a very clear buy recommendation.
The Amazfit GTR 4 is a clear and very successful improvement on the last model. It has modern features that make it stand out. The heart rate measurement isn’t quite as good as it is with the GT 3. The watch can be used for occasional sports without any problems, but it’s not as good for amateur athletes who want to get better.
