Sennheiser RS 175 RF vs Sennheiser RS 185 RF

Headphones Comparison: Sennheiser RS 175 RF vs Sennheiser RS 185 RF

The RS 175 are closed wireless headphones with leatherette ear pads. The closed shape means that less outside noise penetrates. There are four models of the RS series, all of which have artificial leather ear pads, except for the RS 185, which is made of velour and has a semi-open design. A comparison table of the models can be found at the end of the article. The ear cups of the RS 175 are attached to joints that allow horizontal rotation, which means that the headphones adapt very well to the head. Furthermore, the auricles are also attached vertically in a joint. These two joints ensure that the headphones adapt very well to the head. Of course, the wireless headphones are also height-adjustable or adapted to the head’s shape.

The earpads are pleasantly soft and comfortable to wear. There are two more pads on the headband inside so that the headband does not press at the top.

If you compare the RS 185 with the RS 165 or the RS 175, the following things stand out about the RS 185. The earpads are made of below. The headband is also covered with a leather-like material. The model number, RS 185, is printed on a silver ring around the headband. The auricles are also slightly different, have a silver ring, and the buttons are also silver.

The headphones are, of course, also height-adjustable, and the ear cups adjust vertically and horizontally. All in all, these details make the craft a bit more elegant.

For those who want even more bass, there is an extra bass button on the headphones and the transmitter. Especially when playing games and in movies, this bass boost gives explosions and effects a decent bass boost. When playing Dota 2, for example, all the sounds sounded much more powerful than with the older Sennheiser HDR 125.

There are two different modes for the virtual surround sound; LI and HI.  can activate these modes on the station or the button on the auricle of the wireless headphones. Logically, this mode is not really suitable for music, but rather for games and films.

The wireless headphones and the station are made of sturdy plastic. Everything makes a very noble and high-quality impression. On the left in the picture, we can see that the bracket is metal reinforced. The keys also make a good impression; nothing rattles or cracks. Definitely top quality. Even better than my old RS 125, which is almost 10 years old and still works.

As with the RS 165, RS 175, and RS 195, the sound quality is again fully convincing. Good sound with good bass. The RS 185 does not have a bass boost button like the Sennheiser RS 175. This bass button is only for fans of excessive bass. Personally, when it comes to music, for example, the bass is already too much.

The following connections and controls are located on the rear of the charging/sending station:

  1. Toslink connection (digital)
  2. 3.5 mm jack (analog)
  3. Input selection switch. Choose between analog and digital.
  4. Connection for the power supply unit

Mute

To do this, you must briefly press the power button on the right auricle. If it is pressed again briefly, the muting is canceled.

Volume buttons

On the right auricle, there are two buttons for increasing and decreasing the volume.

Balance regulator

A special feature that should emphasize is the balance regulator. A balanced regulator is essential for people who hear less in one ear than the other. The balance regulator can compensate for this difference. To do this, the balance is shifted to the right or left with the slider. The RS 185 has two buttons on the headphones to regulate the balance. One button for the left and one for the right.

A perfect wireless headphone that looks good and is well made. Thanks to digital transmission, there is no longer any background noise. The sound quality is excellent, in my opinion, and with the extra bass mode, even more bass is possible. The price is not exactly low at around 260 USD, but you can also get one of the best wireless headphones on the market today.

Sennheiser RS 185 RF Wireless

Not exactly a bargain at around 350 USD, but it also offers some functions that you won’t find in other wireless headphones. On the one hand, there is balance control, which is particularly useful for people with one-sided hearing impairment, and on the other hand, the ALC and MLC modes are already mentioned.

The craft is perfect, and the upholstery made of velour might appeal to one or the other more than the synthetic leather. Fabric is not as easy to clean as synthetic leather, but you can buy the upholstery if the old ones are too dirty. We also noticed positively that corresponding cables are included in the scope of delivery for both connection options, analog and digital.
