Emotiva Airmotiv GR1 vs Sennheiser HD 600 Headphones

Emotiva Airmotiv GR1 Box

The Airmotiv GR1 is a headphone for true audiophiles that combines superior sound quality, exceptional comfort, superior construction, and cutting-edge design.

Airmotiv GR1 headphones use advanced graphene infusion technology to deliver an exceptionally musical and engaging sound experience. Free from listening fatigue and non-linearity, their graphene-reinforced, low-mass 50mm polycarbonate drivers have crystal-clear highs and surprisingly lively mid-range. Bass is powerful, controlled, and extended. The soundstage is open and very natural. Last but not least, they are comfortable enough to be worn all day long and so good that you can enjoy the GR-1 for years to come.

Sennheiser HD 600 Box

The full-size Sennheiser HD 600 headphones are the perfect choice for listening to your favorite music in high sound quality. The well-thought-out design of the open-casing headphones provides realistic, natural-sounding, and excellent sound parameters: a wide range of reproducible frequencies and high linearity of characteristics.

The headphone emitters are equipped with Ferro-neodymium magnets and are highly sensitive. The soft ear pads and adjustable headband of the Sennheiser HD 600 headphones allow you to listen to your music in maximum comfort. The headphones are equipped with a 6.3 / 3.5 mm adapter for connecting to various signal sources, and the modular design of the case makes it easy to replace the speaker cable.

Sennheiser HD 600 Design

The Emotiva Airmotiv GR1 is wired full-size headphones with a semi-open acoustic design, which means the outer wall of its speaker chamber is less ventilated compared to open headphones fully. Thus, the manufacturer’s release successfully combined with the positive characteristics of the completely closed and freely vent systems. Another curiosity is the graphene-reinforced polycarbonate membrane of the 50mm speaker (which is moved by a lightweight, copper-coated aluminum coil). We have encountered membranes treated in this way, but none were as large as those used in GR1.

Arriving in a rugged white paper box, the Airmotiv GR1 also comes with a van bag that is particularly well protected for its contents thanks to its hard wall, softened inner side, and rugged zipper. Its designers didn’t try to pull revolutionary design ideas out of the drawer (which come in 50% or drown in ugly failure). They sought an aesthetic look by utilizing the motifs of other popular headphones.

The Sennheiser HD 600  has a deep matte graphite-colored bowl body and headband, which, to my taste, is a much more profitable solution than the glossy high-gloss case of the 650s. From the point of view of practicality, matt always wins over gloss since minor scratches are much less noticeable.

The headband cushions are slightly different, but otherwise, the models are identical in appearance and ergonomics. The headphones are lightweight and comfortable, fit perfectly on your head, allowing you to ignore the comfort parameter during hours of work.

The use of modern technologies and developments of Sennheiser in the manufacture of HD 600, such as using a neodymium magnet system, lightweight aluminum voice coils, makes it possible to maximize the sound and minimize possible distortion of the sound range. This model uses a 2.7 meter “Y” cable (each wire fits into its own ear cup), allowing you to move freely around the room. The HD 650 uses a universal, gold-plated 1/8-inch (3.5 mm) stereo mini-jack connector (also includes an automatic adapter for large headphone jacks that snap into place with a lock on the ear cups).

Emotiva Airmotiv GR1

From the very first moment, the sound character of the Airmotiv GR1 could be felt to have been put together with awareness and attention. The audiophile in the sense that he portrayed music easily, digestible, and in detail, but the meantime, he did not for a moment become dry, bored, weak, or clinical. The GR1’s most outstanding capabilities include clever positioning of the vocal tone, biting dynamics detectable at low/mid frequencies, and extremely rich, textured yet powerful bass when needed. All this remained at both low and high loads.

The high frequencies contributed to creating the atmosphere and the perception of small details in a neutral, sometimes almost soft manner.

Sennheiser HD 600

The Sennheiser HD 600 should not be used when playing tracks from portable music players. Open cups allow external sound to pass through and cannot be used in places with high noise levels. But the Sennheiser HD 600 gives you the ultimate immersion experience when you’re at home.

The surprisingly soft and comfortable fabric ear cushions will allow you to listen to your favorite music without any discomfort for hours. Headphones provide reproduction of the entire range of the audio spectrum. Although, there is a fly in the ointment in this barrel of honey. Roaring low-end bass is not as good as in some models with closed ear cups.

For comparison, we can give a model of a similar price segment – Denon AH-D2000. These headphones will drown you in the beautiful bass of music or sound effects. But if we compare the sound of the rest of the sound range, we can confidently say that the mid and high frequencies in the HD 600 sound more natural and effective. But, this is, rather, the quibbles of a sophisticated music lover than an ordinary listener.

Conclusion!

The Emotiva Airmotiv GR1 goes beyond the confines of a “first try” in the field, showing the manufacturer’s concept and aspiration. It even remains the fact that you will have to deal with several rivals. Anyone who is musically diverse (but less often listens to Mozart, a little more likely to wink at lighter music), looking for ears with serious reserves, easy to drive, and audiophile-friendly ears to listen to music at home, is worth listening to.

The Sennheiser HD 600 is said to perform well in its category. Aside from the hint of brilliance that sometimes occurs in the high range due to its exciting character, it can captivate the listener, and that’s the point. Recommended for those who can take the time to listen to their favorite, of course, high-definition music. At the same time, it is also a good investment for those who listen to music and are practicing musicians and often visit the recording rooms of sound studios. They may even have a work tool. Compared to newcomers, the HD 600 gives a slightly narrower stereo. The larger ones don’t experience this hint of brightness.
