Design
Asus ROG Strix Go BT came to me in a branded bright box, inside of which there was a nice kit: the headphones themselves, an audio cable, a USB cable, an adapter for an airplane, a hard case, and documentation. The charging cable is quite long: USB-A to USB-C, no braid, but looks solid. The audio cable is longer; it is braided but moderately soft. It has 3.5 mm combo plugs on both sides: headphones and a microphone in one “bottle.” The case is durable and convenient: it fits the entire set. Marked surface. The kit is good, but an adapter from a combo mini-jack to 2 separate ones (microphone and headphones) would be more useful than an airplane adapter.
Build quality. Headphones are well assembled. The headband’s base is plastic, but there is a metal shackle for reinforcement. There is no more metal in the structure. The lining is upholstered with leatherette. Earpads are too, but eco-leather is slightly different from the touch. On the ear pads, it is softer. It looks reliable and will not “fly around” in a couple of months. In any case, the ear pads are removable and can be cleaned or replaced. The plastic surface of the bowls is similar to a soft touch, it is pleasant to the touch, but it gets dirty easily and is difficult to clean. The bowls can be rotated 90 degrees and folded “inside” the headband. A rare feature for gaming models, and therefore especially pleasant. All moving parts look solid. A small “fly in the ointment” – the headband creaks if you press / stretch it.
Appearance. Asus ROG Strix Go BT headphones look like the modern Strix line: the most versatile design with a minimum of gaming features. There is no backlight, bright colors, and so on. The model is only available in black. Of the accents – inserts “under the metal” on the headband and logos on the fasteners of the bowls. Only the drop-shaped shape of the bowls indicates the gaming affiliation of the headphones. To many, the appearance may seem boring. But you can go outside with headphones without discomfort – they will not differ much from ordinary portable options.
The Asus ROG Strix Go 2.4 has a nice bundle. Adapters are small and neat. The wires are high-quality, an audio cable in a fabric braid with straight mini-jacks. The case is made to put the whole set into it carefully; there are special compartments for everything. It is solid and will protect the contents from falling. The surface is easily soiled, but this is not critical.
Build quality: plastic, metal (headband base), and leatherette (covering ear pads and headband). The metal here is only a thin bow, but it gives strength. Although it creaks a little, the plastic is high quality, not fragile. Eco-leather is also reliable; it does not look like it will crack quickly. The earpads are removable and can be cleaned or replaced. The folding design is a pleasant rarity for game models. Even without a case, you can throw it in a backpack – it will fit. The earcups rotate 90 degrees, and the headphones can be comfortably hung around the neck. The plastic of the bowls has a pleasant texture, like a soft touch, but the surface is easily soiled. Fingerprints remain instantly, but it is difficult to erase them. Without a special napkin and means, perhaps, it will not work.
Asus ROG Strix Go 2.4 headphones are available in 2 colors: Asus ROG Strix Go 2.4 Electro Punk. This version has red accents: logos and headband. The design of the model is calm but recognizable. The shape of the bowls is interesting; it stands out from the competition. The appearance will seem boring to some: there is no backlight and bright accents. Electropunk was made for them.
Comfort
Asus ROG Strix Go BT are comfortable headphones; The padding in the headband and ear cushions is moderately soft; the leatherette does not tire. The downforce is average, and the weight (300 g) is distributed well. From sudden movements, the headphones can move, but they are unlikely to fall. The headband is adjustable within a fairly wide range. It should be enough for everyone. The ear cushions are oval and deep enough to fit any ear. The design is closed, and the earpads are dense, so the ears get a little hot after a couple of hours. This is a feature of all similar models. With short breaks in headphones, you can spend at least a whole day.
The Asus ROG Strix Go 2.4 are comfortable gaming headphones. Only the ears were a bit hot, but this is a feature of all closed models with tight ear cushions. The headband does not rub the top of the head, and the ear cushions are moderately soft and do not irritate the skin. The bowls can additionally tilt for a more precise fit. The ear cushions are wide and deep enough to fit any ear. The headband is adjustable over a fairly wide range. Headphones are not the lightest, but not heavy either – about 290 grams. The weight is distributed well. The clamping force is average: the headphones do not press, but they move with sudden movements.
Sound quality
The sound of Asus ROG Strix Go BT. It is quite balanced and clean. Moderately detailed, with good positioning. Moderately versatile: you can play and watch movies and listen to music. Background, at least. No revelations, gaming or audiophile, no. The sound is decent for its price range. The only caveat: bass lovers may not have enough of it.
The description claims Hi-Res Audio support. This is about an extended frequency range: it is declared from 10 Hz to 40 kHz on the wire. Bluetooth standard 20 Hz – 20 kHz. Don’t wait for sounds you don’t normally hear. The extended range is good because it is possible to “hide” distortions behind audible boundaries. There is surround sound, but it only works when connected via Bluetooth to an Android device – through the application. There is a difference, but the implementation is not the best: volume is created, but an extra echo is added, and positioning is slightly blurred.
The following describes the sound when connected by wire with the electronics turned off. If you connect via Bluetooth, the bass becomes larger and more distortion appears. And the high frequencies are partially “blurred.” The differences are not critical but noticeable. The character of the sound remains the same.
The Asus ROG Strix Go 2.4 delivers high-quality gaming sound. It is clean, without dirt and an overabundance of certain frequencies. Not particularly musical, but great for games. Positioning is good, there is an emphasis on bass, but it does not dominate. Virtual surround sound adds an immersive experience.
To create surround sound, as already mentioned, it uses its software. Everything works well. So much, so that surround sound gives better positioning even in shooters. The box is marked Hi-Res Audio. This means that the frequency range with a wired connection receives an extended upper limit: from 20 Hz to 40 kHz. Everything is standard with a wireless connection: 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
On the “wireless,” the sound of Asus ROG Strix Go 2.4 with 7.1 turned on and without other effects. He is the most balanced. If you turn off 7.1, the positioning will generally remain good, but the distances to sound sources will be guessed worse. However, the left-right positioning is a bit more accurate in stereo mode. On the wire, the headphones become more musical: the treble is cleaner, and the sound is generally more natural. For games, there is no fundamental difference.
Microphone
The Asus ROG Strix Go BT gaming headset is equipped with a built-in omnidirectional microphone. As in ordinary portable headphones: not on a removable or exhaust rod, but hidden – only a hole in the bowl.
Voice quality is average by the standards of gaming models. Or even below average. The voice is transmitted well: without distortion and legible. But it picks up more ambient noise than the directional boom mic options. You can also talk on the street, but not in noisy places is better. Near the road, they will not understand you or ask you again. And just on the go in the yard, for example, you can exchange a few words without any problems.
The Asus ROG Strix Go 2.4 gaming headset is equipped with two microphones. One built-in omnidirectional. It makes sense if the headphones are used as portable ones. In other cases, it is more logical to connect a removable one. It is located on a flexible rod; there is a foam windscreen. It is easy to set it in a comfortable position; the bar bends well and “remembers” it.
The voice quality is good. Even the built-in microphone at home is not bad; you can make out the words without problems. Removable is even better. The voice, of course, does not sound very natural but understandable. You will be heard and understood; they will not ask again. It is better not to place the microphone close to the lips; it “catches” explosive consonants more than we would like. Noise reduction works, but sometimes it can “eat up” part of the voice.
Connectivity
Asus ROG Strix Go BT headphones can be connected to the source via an audio cable (3.5 mm) or Bluetooth. An interesting set. It is assumed that the owners will connect by wire to a PC, laptop, or console, and via Bluetooth to a smartphone for mobile gaming or listening to music on the road, for example. It is a pity that there is no radio channel through the adapter, but this would increase the price. Both connections work well, but you cannot use them simultaneously: connect the wire – Bluetooth turns off.
Wired connection. The bundled cable is long enough to connect to the front connector of the system unit standing on the floor. The console (especially the gamepad) will also reach. But if you don’t have a combo input for headphones and a microphone at the same time in your system unit, then you will need to purchase an adapter. Or use the headset only as headphones. Most laptops won’t have this problem. The headphones work in the off state on the wire: there is sound, and the microphone is active. If noise reduction or transparency is not needed, you can use headphones without draining the battery.
- Working noise reduction, 2 modes.
- There is a transparency mode.
- The operation of noise reduction affects the sound.
Noise cancellation is rare in gaming headphones, and the Asus ROG Strix Go BT is different from most of its peers in this respect. Noise-canceling is working, and its effect of it is noticeable. There are 2 modes: strong and light noise reduction. Plus, the transparency mode. It is implemented mediocrely. Surrounding sounds are heard but with distortion. It helps to navigate space, but answering someone without removing the headphones is uncomfortable.
The Asus ROG Strix Go 2.4 headset connects to the source via a radio channel. This is the main option. A standard scheme is used: the kit includes a USB adapter inserted into a PC / laptop, and headphones are already connected “over the air.” There is also a wired option. Everything is simple here: a 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable. They can connect to almost anything. Besides Xbox, for example. There are no problems with wired connections. The microphone works, and the complete cable is 4-pin. You can’t listen to headphones through a USB cable.
USB adapter. But with a wireless connection is more interesting. The adapter has a USB Type-C plug. It can be connected to a phone, some consoles, or a laptop where there is a Type-C input. What about a PC that only has “full size” USBs? There is an adapter included. The main adapter is about a small flash drive; the second one is about the same. You get a kind of “USB corner if you connect them.” It looks unusual, but it does not differ much from a regular dongle in terms of dimensions.
Controls
Asus ROG Strix Go BT controls are functional and concise. On the back of the left bowl are:
- Volume control. It looks like a wheel, but it is not. This is a three-position joystick. Pull up – increase the volume, down – decrease. Single presses and holds work for smooth changes. Pressing – turn off / turn off the microphone. There are sound confirmations of volume changes in any mode, and for the microphone – only with a wired connection with the electronics turned on.
- Playback control button. One click – start/pause, two – the next track, three – the previous one. It works when connected to a smartphone in any player.
- Power button. Hold for 2 seconds – turn on / off. About 4 seconds from the off state – pairing mode. Pressing – switching modes: strong noise reduction, light noise reduction, ambient sound, etc. All actions have voice prompts.
Features. Buttons are determined by touch confidently; the layout is comfortable. Sound adjustment occurs separately from the system when connected via Bluetooth and by wire to a laptop or PC. But when connected via Bluetooth to the laptop, the volume was adjusted along with the system volume. Ideally, a game/chat volume balance control would not hurt.
The following controls are located on the back of the Asus ROG Strix Go 2.4 left bowl:
- Volume control. He is not your wheel. This is a three-position joystick. Pull up – turn up the volume, downturn it down. Press – turn off / turn off the microphone. There are sound prompts about the maximum and minimum and voice prompts about turning off the microphone.
- Playback control button. It’s the only button. One click – start/pause, two – the next track, three – the previous one. Works with a wireless connection.
- Wire-to-wire switch. He’s on-off. We move the lever to the top position – the headphones turn on for a wireless connection, to the bottom, but the headphones can be listened to by wire.
Features. All the main functions in the Asus ROG Strix Go 2.4 are at your fingertips. The volume is regulated separately from the system volume; the solution with a lever instead of a wheel is quite convenient; you need to get used to it. Since the headphones have a surround sound function, it would not hurt to make a button for it. Ideally, even the game and chat volume control would be in place. But these are additional features that are rarely found. The main thing is that the necessary functions are in place. The remaining features of the headphones are in the proprietary application.
Battery life
- Up to 45 hours on a single charge.
- Quick charge: 5 hours of use in 15 minutes.
- Auto power off after 15-20 minutes of inactivity.
The battery life of Asus ROG Strix Go BT is good: up to 45 hours on a single charge. For 5 days of use for 3-4 hours (games and music on a laptop and phone via Bluetooth) with variable noise reduction/transparency, the battery was discharged by about 50%. It seems that the figures declared by the manufacturer are confirmed. The charge level information is displayed in a “standard location” on the connected device. And more accurate data – in the application.
- Up to 25 hours on a single charge.
- Quick charge: 3 hours of use in 15 minutes.
- Auto-off is configurable in the app.
The battery life of Asus ROG Strix Go 2.4 is up to 25 hours on a single charge, as stated by the manufacturer. You can track the charge in a proprietary application. It does not even have to be opened; a separate utility works in the background. It is located in the tray near the clock. If the headphones are connected, click on the icon, and the current charge will be displayed.
