The Amazfit Cheetah Pro is no exception, boasting a plethora of functionalities that cater to the modern user. But does it live up to its promises? Let’s dive deep into its features and performance.
Amazfit Cheetah vs. Cheetah Pro
Amazfit has released two models of the smartwatch that differ primarily in design and materials, but the Cheetah Pro also has a few advantages in terms of equipment. On my wrist I had the Cheetah Pro most of the time and the regular model for just a few days. There are no significant differences in use.
Design & Materials: The more noble model is clearly the Cheetah Pro, while the normal model with the silicone strap and the plastic housing is a bit simple.
Display: The Cheetah Pro has an AMOLED display with 1.45 inches (480 x 480 pixels), while the cheaper version only offers 1.39 inches (454 x 454 pixels) – but the difference is not big.
Loudspeaker: Both smartwatches have a microphone (e.g. for the language assistant), but only the Cheetah Pro offers a loudspeaker. The regular Cheetah outputs sound through paired headphones.
Basically, the Amazfit Cheetah does it too – the surcharge for the Pro version is quite steep for the functions offered. Only the color is a matter of taste.
Design and Build
Both Amazfit Smartwatches feature a circular screen with subtle color highlights and are designed for maximum lightness. On the right side of the casing, there’s a back button along with a twistable and clickable crown. The Amazfit Cheetah is crafted from “fiber-reinforced polymer“, essentially plastic, while the Cheetah Pro combines plastic (on the bottom) with a more refined metal frame. Both bands can fit wrist sizes ranging from 150 to 220mm.
Amazfit Cheetah Pro (black-gold-red-grey): The better variant also measures 47 x 47 x 11.8 mm at 34 grams or 43 grams with a bracelet. Here the display glass is called Gorilla Glass 3.
Amazfit Cheetah (green and white): The cheaper version measures 46.5 x 46.5 x 11.9 mm at 32 grams or 47 grams with a bracelet. The display is protected by tempered glass.
Display and Interface
Amazfit Cheetah Pro: The watch features a bright 480 x 480 pixel display, and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protects it. This ensures it remains durable and resists scratches. With a pixel density of 331 ppi, the display appears sharp and navigates smoothly. You can increase the brightness to 1000 nits, ensuring visibility even in direct sunlight.
Amazfit Cheetah: The watch features a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen with a 454 x 454-pixel resolution, and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protects it. The interface displays at a pixel density of 326 ppi. You can adjust the brightness to a maximum of 1000 nits, ensuring you can see it clearly even in direct sunlight. Additionally, the Always On Display feature lets users check the time without having to activate the watch.
Connectivity & Sensors
Your smartphone can connect to the watch using something called Bluetooth 5.3 with BLE. The watch can also use WiFi, which is mainly for playing songs from your phone on the Amazfit Cheetah watches and for getting maps that you can use without the internet. The watch has a space of about 2.3 GB to store these things. But, this watch can’t make payments like some phones or watches can with a feature called NFC.
The watch has a special part called “BioTracker PPG 4.0” on its back. This part checks your health by looking at your heartbeat, how much oxygen is in your blood, and if you’re feeling stressed. The watch can also see how well you’re sleeping and can listen to how you breathe. It also has tools to see how much you’re moving and count how many steps you take.
The Amazfit Cheetah (Pro) watch can also tell where you are using GPS. It uses many systems to do this, like GPS, GLONASS, and others. The watbbbbch can also tell how high up you are and which way you’re facing. And, if it’s too bright or dark outside, the watch can change its screen brightness by itself.
Health and Fitness Features
The Amazfit Cheetah Pro continuously tracks heart rate, stress levels, and oxygen saturation (SpO2), making it a health enthusiast’s dream. Its biometric sensor, Biotracker PPG, measures blood oxygen. The watch also features an accelerometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor, barometric altimeter, and light sensor. It tracks sleep, including naps, and offers insights into respiratory health, women’s health, and more.
The Amazfit Cheetah comes packed with sensors like a biometric sensor, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor, barometric altimeter, and light sensor. It consistently monitors heart rate, SpO2 levels, and stress levels. The sleep monitoring feature stands out for its accuracy, capturing all sleep phases.
For those passionate about fitness, the watch recognizes over eight sports movements, 25 power movements, and tracks swimming. Its GPS feature, backed by Max track technology, guarantees precise workout tracking.
Smartphone app: Zepp
In the US, the company goes by the name Zepp instead of Amazfit, which explains the app’s name. You can find the Zepp app in the Google Play Store, but it also works with iPhones, available in the App Store. The app has a clear layout and serves best as a hub for health data and workouts, which you can see right on the homepage. You can also save shortcuts here, like the alarm clock, clock face, or starting a workout. The second tab displays recent workouts and goal settings, such as steps taken and calories burned. The third tab houses the device and general settings.
If you choose not to use the Zepp app exclusively, you can also sync workouts and health data with apps like Strava, Adidas Running, Relive, and Google Fit. The synchronization with Google Fit works flawlessly: it accurately captures sleep data, steps, and heart rate, as well as popular workouts like jogging, walking, and cycling. However, for specialized sports modes, the synchronization falls short.
Performance and Battery Life
Amazfit Cheetah Pro Powered by the Zepp OS version 2.1, the watch offers a smooth user experience. It comes with an internal memory of 2.45 GB and uses Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity. The 440 mAh battery promises a 14-day lifespan, but with intensive use, I found it lasted around 5 days, which is still commendable.
With a 440 milliamp-hour battery, the Amazfit Cheetah promises a 14-day battery life. However, with intensive use, it lasts around 6 days, which is still impressive compared to many smartwatches in the market.
Conclusion!
In our comparison of the Amazfit Cheetah Pro and Cheetah with the TicWatch Pro 5 and the Huawei Watch 4 Pro, we noticed that the Amazfit models offer slightly fewer features. However, in everyday use, this limitation rarely becomes an issue. Depending on what you need from a smartwatch, the Amazfit OS 2.0 often meets the mark. Importantly, Amazfit shines brighter than others in sports tracking.
The Amazfit Cheetah and Cheetah Pro excel as top-notch fitness trackers and noteworthy smartwatches. Amazfit has already shown their expertise with the Amazfit GTS 4 and GTR 4. For runners, especially beginners, these models might offer extra benefits. Yet, the initial higher price doesn’t seem entirely justified. With the prices for the Amazfit GTS 4 and GTR 4 dropping considerably within a year, it might be wise to either wait for the 5th generation’s launch or think about the older models.
