How To Configure Valorant Graphics To Improve FPS

Valorant is a fairly optimised game, but you can always tweak it to increase FPS and get the most out of your PC. Next, we’ll look at how to adjust the graphic settings to achieve a higher FPS while sacrificing the lowest possible graphic quality.

FPS is an acronym that stands for Frames Per Second as well as First Person Shooter (a type of game). Although Valorant is an FPS game, when we talk about FPS in this guide, we mean frames per second.

Minimum system requirement

To begin with, let’s check that your system meets Riot Games’ minimal requirements for playing the game. If you’re concerned that your PC isn’t up to VALORANT’s system requirements, you should look into getting an upgrade.

Minimum Requirements:

  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
  • GPU: Intel HD 3000
  • RAM: 4GB
  • OS: Windows 7 64-Bit OS

With this configuration we should be able to get around 30 FPS.

Recommended Requirements:

  • CPU: 7700K
  • GPU: 1080
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 256GB SSD

30 frames per second = Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400, Intel HD GPU 4000
60 frames per second = Intel i3-4150 CPU, GeForce GT 730 GPU
144 frames per second or higher = Intel i5-4460 3.2GHz CPU, GTX 1050Ti GPU

Valorant’s graphic settings

To change most of the graphics settings, go to the Settings menu and select the Video tab at the top right. despite the fact that the General section contains three settings.

Settings

In general, we will configure

  • Display mode: full screen (full screen is always better than windowed)
  • Select the native resolution of your monitor (in general, it will be 1920×1080).
  • Frame rate limit: Unlimited

In the video we will select:

  • Material quality: high-medium
  • Texture Quality: High/Medium
  • Detail Quality: High
  • UI Quality: Low (Impacts performance quite a bit)
  • Off: Vignette
  • V-Sync: Off
  • Anti-Aliasing: MSAA 4x/2x (good compromise between speed and graphic quality)
  • Anisotropic filtering: 8x/4x (good compromise between speed and graphic quality)
  • Improve Clarity: Off
  • Bloom: Off (highly affects performance)
  • Distortion: Off (affects performance quite a bit)
  • First Person Shadows: Off

Valorants graphic settings

These tweaks provide performance gains while making characters look clearer in all positions (we won’t see enemies getting worse). And yes, as you have seen, in general it is better to disable Clarity Enhancement.

Improve performance in Windows

Change your profile from Balanced to Ultimate Performance.

Profile windows

High performance: go to the Windows control panel and there too.

  • Optimize Discord: open Discord, go to the Settings page:
    • Click on the Appearance tab and leave the Hardware Acceleration option disabled.
    • Now, click on the Overlay tab and disable the in-game overlay.
  • Google Chrome
    • Open Google Chrome and go to the settings page.
    • Scroll down to the bottom and click on the Advanced tab.
    • Scroll down again and disable the option “Continue running apps in the background when Google Chrome is closed.”
    • You can also disable the “Use hardware acceleration when available” option, although it is not as important as the previous one.

Graphics cards

As Valorant is a very new game, it is important to update your graphics card drivers in order to take advantage of all the optimizations and improvements in the new drivers.

Next, open the Nvidia Control Panel and click on Manage 3D Settings:

  • Click on Program Settings.
  • Select Valorant from the dropdown menu.
  • Set the power management mode to “Prefer maximum performance.” You may want to split test and optimal power as the effect of this setting depends on your GPU.
  • Set the preferred refresh rate to the highest available.
  • Set shader cache to On.
  • Setup Texture Filtering-Quality to High Performance.
  • Set Triple Damping to Off.
  • Set vertical sync to Off.
  • Set VR pre-rendered frames to 1.

Adjust windows settings

Next, open Radeon AMD Software and configure:

  • Anti-Aliasing Mode – Use Application Settings (Off in Game).
  • Anti-Aliasing Method-Multisampling (Off in game).
  • Morphological Filtering-Off.
  • Anisotropic Filtering Mode-Use Application Settings (Off in Game)
  • Texture Filtering Quality-Performance.
  • Surface Format Optimization-On.
  • Wait for vertical update: Off.
  • OpenGL Triple Buffering-Off.
  • Shader Cache-AMD optimized.
  • Tessellation mode-AMD optimized.
  • Target Speed Control-On (Set it to the maximum frequency supported by your monitor (60Hz, 144Hz, 240Hz…).

FAQ:

What are Valorant Pros’ preferred graphics settings?

The majority of Valorant Pros use the minimum graphics settings with a few sharpening filters added on top. Better than eye-catching visuals, it helps them hit frame rates of 200–300+.

In Valorant, what is the Miyagi Method for aim training?

One of the best-known strategies for sharpening your aim in Valorant is this. To practise shooting at moving robots rather than static ones, you need only enter the training mode. After putting in some serious practise time, you should check out a game. Stay calm and focus on getting your crosshairs on the enemy’s head before you fire. If you keep at it, you’ll develop the muscle memory necessary to take quick, accurate headshots.

Do I need to use Valorant’s Anti-Aliasing?

Both yes and no can be true at the same time. If Anti-Aliasing is consistently improving performance, you’re good to go. Textures will no longer have sharp corners. If you notice a drop in frames per second while playing Valorant, turning it off may help.
