Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection Game Review

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection Game Review

With over 15 million copies sold, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has proved to be one of the best exclusives of the fourth generation of PlayStation and yet another proof of the skill of the Naughty Dog developers. On the other hand, we are talking about the same software house of The Last of Us! And if we still have to wait to play The Last of Us in a “restored” version on PlayStation 5, the same cannot be said of Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which lands on Sony’s next-gen console in an ad-hoc package. It is an excellent opportunity to replay them or play it for the first time in the best possible way.

Gameplay

The last two Uncharteds land on PlayStation 5 in a bundle UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection. But what’s new? We could define the collection as remastered, even if it has not been so long that we have to force the developers to make such a drastic change in terms of graphics. In 2022, almost six years after the launch of Uncharted 4 (oh my, has it been that long?), Naughty Dog’s game on PlayStation 4 still looks divine. Indeed, since even the spin-off, the games boasted a truly top graphics sector. Two factors are most affected by the past time: the resolution and the frame rate.

Legacy of Thieves Collection

The two Uncharteds on PlayStation 5 can be played in three modes: the Fidelity one, with native 4K graphics at 30 fps; Performance, with 4K resolution with upscale from the base resolution of 1440p and 60 frames per second; o Performance +, with 1080p resolution and 120 fps, obviously only on compatible TVs. We prefer the middle mode, the Performance mode, which allows you to enjoy the game on 4K TVs without realizing the actual upscaling. But it’s mainly about the frame rate: playing Uncharted at 60 fps is quite impressive. Maybe it won’t make all that difference in the exploration sections, but during chases, shootings, and escapes, it will.

playing Uncharted at 60 fps

Even in 4K, we are not at the levels of The Last of Us 2, but still, the rendering on the screen is excellent. The animations, settings, and direction: everything is as we remembered it, excellent, with the added value of being reproduced at a higher resolution and frame rate. It is useless to spend further words on the intrinsic quality of the two titles: our previous reviews, although dated, are still valid years later. The only thing we recommend is not to consider those who tell you that they are only interactive films in which you play little and watch a lot.

There are also improvements related to the Performance of the controllers. On the other hand, one of the strengths of PS5 is precisely the DualSense, and not exploiting it properly with such an important game would have been not very smart. In this regard, the collection dedicated to Uncharted boasts features related to dynamic adaptive triggers, which return different feedback than usual when shooting or using the grapple, and improved haptic feedback. You can feel the difference. There is also compatibility with 3D Audio if you have compatible headphones available.

We would like to see it in action on PC as well. Given the enthusiasm with which the PC community has welcomed the arrival of God of War, Uncharted 4 and spin-offs could (and should, in our opinion) receive the same warmth. And in this case, the game could push the accelerator further on the graphics sector!

action on PC as well

Price

The collection itself would cost $49.99. It is available in digital format directly on the PlayStation Store. But if you already have your copy of Uncharted 4 or Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, you can upgrade each title for $10. There is also a third option. If you don’t have the original games, you can grab a physical copy for PS4 and then upgrade to the PS5 version. You may be able to save a little bit! Be aware that if you have redeemed the game via PlayStation Plus, you will not upgrade. You will need to buy a separate copy.

Conclusion!

In one fell swoop, you take home two of the best console action games ever made. And if you already bought them on PS4, you can upgrade for $ 10. The intrinsic quality of the two games is beyond question. In addition, you will have the opportunity to play them at a resolution and frame rate worthy of current technologies. Too bad that the release on PC has not yet been fixed!
